You will be surprised to read what is written on the little pamphlet in the box of a new Buck Pocket Knife. There is something very unique about it. I will also show you a picture of my hunter’s knife from 40 years ago and my stunning new pocket knife, which I bought in November of this year at Hunting and Fishing (2023) in New Zealand. Read all about it in this article.

Forty years ago, my dad gave me a Buck Hunting Knife as a gift. I was 24 years old at the time. I was surprised; why would he give me a hunting knife? I was not a keen hunter and did not show interest in hunting. The only thing I can think of is that he loved the knife, and that he loved hunting. My middle brother is the hunter. On that particular day, Dad Charles presented the knife to me. I never used the knife, I only kept it in my cupboard and handled it from time to time, adoring the quality and the smooth handle to it.

Forty years later, in November of 2023, I walked into a Hunting and Fishing shop in New Zealand and saw the beautiful buck knives in the lock-away cabinet with a heavy glass inlay door. I saw the same hunting knife my dad gave me that day. Picked it up and had a lovely memory.

I also saw a 252 Trunk Pocket Knife and immediately fell in love with it. The salesperson opened the cabinet and I handled the knife. It felt so good. The quality was outstanding. I opened and closed it a couple of times. My name was written on that knife. The next day, I went back to purchase the khaki-coloured pocket knife.

When I opened the box, the knife slid from a plastic pocket into my hand. I saw myself carving jerky (biltong in Afrikaans – a South African delicacy). Then, a tiny pamphlet slipped out, too. When I read it, I was stunned. Immediately, I thought about my dad’s gift to me 40 years ago. Did he read the pamphlet before he purchased the large hunting for me as a gift? I will never know; he passed away a couple of years ago at the age of 79.

What was written on the tiny pamphlet in the new Buck Pocket Knife box?

I share it with you.

As my father Chuck Buck would say, if this is your first Buck knife, “welcome aboard.” You are now part of a very large family. We think of each one of our users as a member of the Buck Knives family, and we take care of our own.

Now that you are family, you might want to know a little more about us. Dad said it best when he said, “The fantastic growth of Buck Knives, Inc. was no accident. From the beginning, we determined to make God the Senior Partner. In a crisis, the problem was turned over to Him, and He hasn’t failed to help us with the answer. Each knife must reflect the integrity of management. If sometimes we fail on our end because we are human, we find it imperative to do our utmost to make it right. If any of you are troubled or perplexed and looking for answers, may we invite you to look to Him, for God loves you.”

We have stood by these values since 1902 and honor our products with this Forever Warranty. Please don’t hesitate to contact us regarding your knife.

CJ Buck

President, CEO, Chairman of Buck Knives.

If your knife has sentimental value, please make a note of it when you send the knife to us so that we can determine whether to repair or replace it.

Two things I have learned from the owners of Buck Knives.

Firstly, yes, they do warrantee it forever. What a commitment, what a product, and what a brand!

The second thing is the spiritual component of the knife and the people behind it. I quote it:

“ In a crisis, the problem was turned over to Him, and He hasn’t failed to help us with the answer.” What a beautiful statement. We all go through difficult and challenging situations. The people of Buck Knives have also been through some valleys. However, they have called on the Name of the Lord, and He carried them through.

What a privilege for me to carry a quality small folding knife in my pocket, knowing that the manufacturers and I know the mountaintops and valleys of life. He is with us in the valleys of life. However, Our Father and His Word remain forever. Just like Buck Knives, there is a forever guarantee.

“Your Word, LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens” (Psalm 119:89). “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of our God endures forever” (Isaiah 40:8). “I the Lord do not change” (Malachi 3:6). “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my (God’s) Words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35).

THE BLACK HANDLE MATERIAL OF THE HUNTING KNIFE: What is Phenolic material?

Phenolics result from polymerisation between paper, canvas, linen, or glass cloth layers impregnated with synthetic thermosetting resins. This laminated material is a popular alternative to acrylic because of its high resistance to flexing.
