By William Van Zyl (May 2022).
This is one of my shortest posts. See the fabulous sketch and watercolour work of Alyona. To view search: Alyona Creates. I include some of my recent loose and whimsical watercolour illustrations.
It is gratifying to just let go of your available style and venture into the unknown! It is refreshing.
This poem sets the scene:
Whimsical
Old captain Joe had no idea
He could break free from his mould
The crew knew him – unchanged for good
———-0————
Then one day, he took a pen and paint
He looked at it – took it – and slapped some on the old white sheet
He stared at it – what could it be?
———–0———–
He saw a cat and a shark in a large aquarium tank
He quickly added a couple of lines
Swoosh, he went with the brush – paint dripped everywhere
————0———-
A blue-green wave appeared in the tank
The cat’s tail was around the shark
The teeth of the shark spiked off the page
————0———–
The crew were stunned
Old captain Joe had broken his mould
The crew knew he was changed for good
————-0————
The cat could swim under the sea
The shark’s tooth was too big for the tank
And, the tail of the cat went around the world.
