Freehand sketch of the layout of a Minecraft world. Redwall Abbey. Credit: Planet Minecraft. I designed Redwall Abbey after a sketch Joseph Durel did in 2006. Although the cardinal direction is not exactly as depicted in the image and even the series, it is as closely accurate to the picture I could get. Learning Objectives
- To use teamwork to build a tomb
- To create a well-hidden tomb beneath the temple/tomb/mausoleum. For example, if you choose the Egyptian Pyramids, show the channels, secret passages, etc. with the different tombs.
- Choose appropriate blocks to hide, decorate and light the tomb
- Explore via tombs/burial sites, temples and mausoleums on Youtube to understand more about the different types of tombs/temples/mausoleums. For example, if you are doing Egyptian Pyramids, research the details before you start your design.
-
For DVC (Design and Visual Communication), Digital Technology & Art teachers:
- Teachers could include freehand sketching. For example, after doing research make a 3-d and 2-d sketch of the concept tomb/mausoleum.
- Model the tomb/mausoleum in SketchUp.
- Presentation: Students present their mausoleum/tomb using Google Slides. Take pictures (or scan) the freehand sketches. Take screenshots (or save images) of the modelling of the mausoleum/tomb in SketchUp.
- SketchUp allows for 3-d modelling with many options like sectional views.
- Ask students to create a map of their Minecraft world. Show the mausoleum/tomb.
