Drama, Ancient Drama…

The great throne room fell silent.

Countless beings stood before the Ancient of Days. The brilliance of God’s glory filled the heavenly court with a radiance beyond human imagination. Seraphim cloaked in living fire hovered above the throne, their voices echoing with eternal praise. Mighty cherubim stood as guardians of God’s holiness, their eyes blazing like molten bronze, their wings stretched wide in reverent worship. Multitudes of heavenly hosts filled the vast expanse of the throne room, each reflecting the majesty of the One who sat upon the throne.

Then everything changed.

A deep and solemn stillness settled over Heaven itself.

Every eye turned toward seven towering figures standing among the heavenly assembly—Maccabear, Zuccothe, Zanzibar, Nephosith, Callistan, Danniloth, and Lucifear.

This being’s appearance stirred both awe and unease. They towered like ancient kings, clothed in garments that shimmered with traces of forgotten splendour. Their faces possessed an unsettling beauty, marked by piercing eyes that seemed to burn with intelligence, pride, and hidden ambition. Some appeared wrapped in robes as dark as a moonless night, while others seemed clothed in armour that reflected flashes of crimson, bronze, and silver. Great wings stretched behind them—vast, powerful, and majestic—yet shadows gathered wherever they stood, as though light itself hesitated in their presence.

These mighty beings had once reflected the glory of their Creator with perfect purity. Now, however, something had been lost. Pride had scarred their countenances. Rebellion lingered beneath their calm expressions. Their beauty remained, but it had become twisted by arrogance. They looked like princes who had exchanged humble service for the intoxicating desire to rule.

The heavenly court remained silent.

No voice dared interrupt the moment.

No movement escaped the notice of the Almighty.

The tension became almost unbearable.

Then the LORD fixed His gaze upon Lucifear.

The silence deepened.

The question was simple, yet it carried the weight of eternity.

“Whence comest thou?” (Job 1:7, KJV)

Lucifear bowed ever so slightly. A faint smile, almost imperceptible, crossed his face—not one of joy, but of calculated confidence.

His voice broke the silence.

“From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”

Every word echoed throughout the heavenly court.

Then came the question that would reverberate through history:

“Hast thou considered my servant Job?”

For a moment, even Heaven seemed to hold its breath.

The seven figures exchanged silent glances.

What appeared to be a conversation about one faithful man would become the opening scene of a conflict stretching across the pages of Scripture—from Eden to the Flood, from Mount Hermon to Caesarea Philippi, from Calvary to the empty tomb, and finally to the glorious return of the King of Kings.

The unseen war had begun long before humanity understood it. Kingdoms would rise and fall. Nations would be influenced by unseen powers. Angels would wage battles beyond human sight. Yet through every age, one truth would remain unshaken:

The true Son of God would ultimately triumph.

END OF THE INTRODUCTION.

PLEASE NOTE: The intro is fictional, loosely based on the account of Job 1 in the Bible. Used for dramatic effect. The seven named beings above are entirely fictional characters created for this story. The biblical account in Job 1:6–12 records “the sons of God” presenting themselves before the LORD, with Satan also appearing among them. The physical descriptions above are imaginative literary fiction intended to set the scene and are not descriptions given by Scripture.

A Documentary That Made Me Think. And I Am Convinced, It Will Make You Think.

Recently (June 2026), I watched The Unseen Realm, based on the work of biblical scholar Michael S. Heiser, broadcast on Shine TV New Zealand. The documentary challenged me to think more deeply about passages of Scripture that I had often read but had never fully connected with.

It encouraged me to explore three fascinating questions:

  • Why did Jesus choose Caesarea Philippi when He declared that “the gates of hell shall not prevail”?
  • Why is Mount Hermon significant in biblical and Jewish tradition?
  • Who are the mysterious “sons of God” mentioned in Scripture?

Whether or not one agrees with every conclusion presented in the documentary, it offers a fascinating window into the Bible’s supernatural worldview.

The Gates of Hell – Caesarea Philippi

Near the foot of Mount Hermon lies Caesarea Philippi, a place known in the ancient world for pagan worship and a large cave that many associated with the entrance to the underworld.

Standing there, Jesus declared:

“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18, KJV)

According to Heiser, this was no accident. Jesus was standing in a place associated with spiritual darkness and boldly announcing that His Kingdom would ultimately triumph over every power of evil.

The gates of Hades are defensive, not offensive. Gates do not attack. Rather, Christ’s Church advances, proclaiming the victory won through His death and resurrection.

Mount Hermon and the Sons of God

Genesis 6 briefly tells us that “the sons of God saw the daughters of men.”

The passage is short, but it has generated centuries of discussion.

Ancient Jewish writings, especially the Book of Enoch, identify Mount Hermon as the place where rebellious heavenly beings descended, bound themselves by oath, and took human wives. Although this detail is not stated in Genesis itself, it formed part of the Jewish background familiar to many in the Second Temple period.

The result, according to both Genesis and Enoch, was widespread corruption, violence, and the rise of the Nephilim.

The New Testament later speaks of angels who sinned and were kept in chains until judgment (2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6), passages that many scholars—including Michael Heiser—understand in light of Genesis 6 and this ancient Jewish tradition.

Who Are the Sons of God?

The Bible uses the expression “sons of God” in several different ways.

In Job 1 and Job 2, the sons of God appear before the LORD in the heavenly court, and Satan also comes among them.

Job 38 describes the sons of God shouting for joy at the creation of the world.

Luke calls Adam “the son of God.”

Believers in Christ become sons and daughters of God through adoption by faith.

Yet above them all stands Jesus Christ—Yeshua—the eternal Son of God.

Unlike every created being, Jesus was not created. He is the eternal Word made flesh, the One through whom all things were made. Every angel, every heavenly being, every throne, dominion, principality, and power ultimately answers to Him.

He alone conquered sin.

He alone conquered death.

He alone rose from the grave.

He alone now holds “the keys of hell and of death” (Revelation 1:18).

The Unseen Battle

Have you ever wondered what these unseen beings might look like?

How do they move?

Where are they?

Over which regions do they exercise influence?

The Bible does not satisfy every curiosity, but it consistently teaches that there is a real spiritual dimension beyond what our eyes can see.

Paul reminds believers:

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12, KJV)

John writes that “the whole world lieth in wickedness” (1 John 5:19, KJV), highlighting the pervasive influence of evil in this present age while affirming that Christ has overcome the world.

Daniel gives us another remarkable glimpse behind the curtain. After praying and fasting for twenty-one days, an angel explained that he had been delayed by “the prince of the kingdom of Persia” until Michael came to help (Daniel 10). Whether understood as a spiritual power influencing an earthly kingdom or in another way, the passage reminds us that prayer is not insignificant. God is at work even when His answers are delayed.

As followers of Christ, we are called not to fear the powers of darkness but to stand firm in God’s strength, proclaim the Gospel, resist the devil, and live under the authority of King Jesus.

The Victory Belongs to Christ

The cross was not merely an execution.

It was a victory.

Jesus disarmed the principalities and powers.

He triumphed over them openly.

He defeated death.

He rose again.

He reigns forever.

The Kingdom of God continues advancing, and one day every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

A Prayer for Spiritual Victory

Heavenly Father,

Creator of the heavens and the earth. The all-powerful God whom I serve.

I come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour.

Thank You that Jesus has overcome sin, death, and every power of darkness through His death and glorious resurrection. Thank You that all authority in heaven and on earth belongs to Him.

You have given me all power and authority to overcome the Enemy.

Lord, strengthen me with the whole armour of God. Help me to stand firm against every scheme and wile of the enemy. Give me wisdom, discernment, courage, and faith to remain faithful to You.

I pray against every influence of darkness that seeks to oppose Your purposes. Let Your light overcome every shadow, Your truth overcome every lie, and Your peace rule in every troubled heart.

I break every curse, every plan and strategy of the Enemy against me and my family in Jesus’ Name.

Let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

I pray with perseverance and boldness, as Daniel prayed. I know that You are always at work, even when I cannot see the battle. Release the armies of God, all the Hosts of Heaven, to fight for me against the powers and principalities in dark places in the air.

I keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, the true and eternal Son of God, who holds the keys of death and Hades and who will one day make all things new.

I pray this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ,

Amen.
