Have you ever found a great treasure? Have you ever seen a precious pearl, a ring, a pendant, or a piece of jewellery you loved?
We all have found something of great treasure. We think about it, plan, save, and sell something to get that valuable item, right?
Table of Contents
From a spiritual perspective:
However, it goes much further and deeper. It goes beyond sacrificing; it affects how we see and perceive the world, impacting our paradigms. I include an example of a NEW HEART: Don’t miss the outstanding video of the woman who invites her son’s murderer to live next to her in this article.
The Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl
The stories of the hidden treasure and the precious pearl, found in Matthew 13:44-46, are two parables Jesus shared to illustrate the immense value of God’s kingdom. Here’s an interpretation of what it means to “sell everything,” “buy the land,” and “buy the pearl” within the context of faith and spiritual enlightenment—a paradigm change.
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
Matthew 13: 44-46
Selling Everything: What does that mean?
The act of ‘selling everything’ represents a shift in thinking, moving towards a new paradigm. The man and the merchant willingly give up all they possess, signifying that true devotion often means placing God’s kingdom above all worldly thinking, paradigms, and desires.
Once you enter the Kingdom of God, your thinking starts to change—your old ways of thinking, your paradigm shifts. As you hear the Word and accept those challenges, you must eliminate wrong beliefs and thinking. It is a process. It takes time. For example, ‘pray for your enemies.’ The act — praying for your enemies — will shake up your way of thinking. It will challenge you.
I provide an actual story as an outstanding example of a paradigm shift: “Ultimate Forgiveness.”
In 1993, Mary Johnson’s 20-year-old son was murdered during an argument at a party. The killer was a 16-year-old boy named Oshea Israel. After being released from prison, Israel moved in next door to Mary, and they formed an unlikely friendship. Steve Hartman has their story in “On the Road.”
“CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell” delivers the latest news and original reporting and goes beyond the headlines with context and depth.
Here is the remarkable true story. It was recorded this year – 2024 about 2 to 3 months ago.

The Key Takeaway
Both parables highlight the transformative effect of recognising God’s kingdom as the ultimate treasure. They show that the kingdom of God is worth any sacrifice and adjustment of your paradigm (your way of thinking), as it provides opportunities to grow, become more successful, sow seeds, and reap an abundant harvest. Kingdom thinking surpasses all earthly thinking.
Selling everything, buying the land, or buying the pearl reflects the believer’s journey of reordering their philosophy, their evaluation of life, and their understanding of the natural and spiritual world.
Bobby Schuller from HOUR OF POWER says: Do you struggle to forgive? Do you struggle to give? Do you struggle to pray for your enemies? You need a NEW HEART.
How do you get a new heart? Pray and ask God to give you a new heart in that area. Ask God to place his Spirit in you so that you will be able to change. Your heart is where your ultimate ‘thinking’ lies.
Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.
Prov 4: 23
Here is a hint on how you can renew your heart and your paradigm—how to get a ‘new pattern of thinking.’ God is speaking to his children in the following verses.
Ezekiel 36:24-28 The Message (MSG)
“‘For here’s what I’m going to do: I’m going to take you out of these countries, gather you from all over, and bring you back to your own land. I’ll pour pure water over you and scrub you clean. I’ll give you a new heart, put a new spirit in you. I’ll remove the stone heart from your body and replace it with a heart that’s God-willed, not self-willed. I’ll put my Spirit in you and make it possible for you to do what I tell you and live by my commands. You’ll once again live in the land I gave your ancestors. You’ll be my people! I’ll be your God!
The New King James Version: A New Heart
26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.
