Jehu was hanging out with his fellow commanders when everything changed.
The atmosphere was ordinary — soldiers talking strategy, resting between campaigns, unaware that heaven was about to interrupt history. Then a young man — the son of a prophet — arrived with urgency in his eyes. He carried a divine instruction.
He called Jehu aside.
In a private room, away from the noise of the crowd, oil was poured over Jehu’s head. The young prophet declared the word of the Lord: Jehu was anointed king, and he was commissioned to destroy the house of Ahab — including Jezebel.
There was no debate. No hesitation.
Jehu mounted his horse and rode furiously.
The Furious Ride of Purpose
On his way to Jezreel, Jehu was met by two kings:
- Joram
- Ahaziah
They asked him, “Is it peace?”
Jehu’s reply cut through political diplomacy:
“What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?” (2 Kings 9:22, KJV)
Peace cannot coexist with corruption.
Jehu called them, “Follow me.” But they were not ready to align with righteousness — and judgment followed.
Jezebel at the Gates
When Jehu finally arrived at the gates of Jezreel, Jezebel prepared herself.
She painted her face. She adorned her head. She positioned herself at the window.
Why?

She could not enter through Jehu’s ear gates — he had already heard the word of the Lord. So she attempted another strategy: the eye gates.
Seduction. Distraction. Intimidation through image.
The spirit behind Jezebel always seeks access — if not through what you hear, then through what you see.
Jehu did not look up in fascination. He looked up with authority.
He cried out:
“Who is on my side? Who?”
Two or three eunuchs — servants within Jezebel’s own court — looked down.
In that decisive moment, they defected.
They threw her down — killed.
And the prophecy was fulfilled.
Elijah and the Counterattack
Years earlier, the prophet Elijah had experienced a similar confrontation.
On Mount Carmel, he defeated the prophets of Baal in one of the most dramatic spiritual victories recorded in Scripture. Fire fell from heaven. The people declared, “The Lord, He is the God!”
But after victory came vulnerability.
Jezebel sent a message:
“So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by tomorrow…” (1 Kings 19:2, KJV)
Notice — she did not send an army.
She sent a message.
And that message penetrated Elijah’s ear gate.
The bold prophet fled. He sat under a juniper tree and asked that he might die. A spirit of depression and suicide pressed heavily upon him.
The battle was no longer external — it was internal.
The Modern Jezebel: Social Media and the War for the Gates
In the Joni Table Talk podcast interview (“Life on Fire” – Spotify), James Aladiran draws a powerful parallel: today’s generation faces relentless assault through social media.
You do not always choose what appears on your screen.
Images.
Language.
Videos.
Suggestions.
They flood the eye gates and the ear gates.
The Jezebel strategy has evolved — but the objective remains the same:
Corrupt purity. Distract purpose. Weaken conviction.
James Aladiran calls Christians to repentance, holiness, and separation from defilement. His message echoes the spirit of Jehu: ride furiously toward obedience. Do not negotiate with compromise.
“Who Is on the Lord’s Side?”
When Jehu reached the gate, he asked:
“Who is on my side?”
That question echoes today.
In a culture saturated with digital noise, algorithmic temptation, and visual seduction, believers must decide:
- Will we guard our gates?
- Will we allow messages to shape our emotional state?
- Will we let images disciple our desires?
Purity is not accidental. It is intentional.
A Call to Purity
Christians are not merely called to survival — we are called to purity.
James Aladiran’s message is clear:
- Guard your eye gates.
- Guard your ear gates.
- Reject compromise.
- Repent quickly.
- Pursue holiness intentionally.
Like Jehu, we must respond immediately to the anointing and instruction of God.
Like Elijah, when attacked mentally and emotionally, we must return to the still small voice of the Lord.
The battle is real.
But so is the anointing.
The question remains:
Who is on the Lord’s side?

Closing Prayer for Purity
Heavenly Father,
We come before You in humility and repentance. Cleanse our hearts and purify our minds. Guard our eye gates and our ear gates from anything that defiles, distracts, or weakens our devotion to You.
Lord, as You anointed Jehu for his assignment, anoint us afresh to walk in holiness. Give us courage to confront compromise and wisdom to discern the subtle attacks of the enemy. Where messages have discouraged us like Elijah, restore our strength and renew our minds.
Create in us clean hearts, O God, and renew a right spirit within us. Let our lives reflect Your purity in a generation overwhelmed by noise and temptation.
We choose Your side today.
In Jesus’ mighty name,
Amen.
