Time to say goodbye.
Gawie had a surpassing love for his family.
How do we know this?
He posted many pictures of his siblings, dad Gawie (Senior) and his mum Ous on social media.
He loved his siblings – Delien & Liz – with a special place in his heart for Neville.
Like all of us, the four siblings have faced many obstacles and difficulties.
However, they have prevailed. They are in unity. Love conquers all!
His endearing love for his family pinnacled when he recently took 4 prints of a picture of Tieka Windell – his nana. And, what did he do with them?
He took the four prints – framed them – and sent them to the remaining Windell sisters – Ray, Nevillin, Marie and Nena. On the day of Tieka’s 20 th celebration in heaven, Gawie and Neville went to her grave. Gawie left a special plaque with beautiful flowers on the grave after clearing the grave of weeds. Then he did a remarkable thing. And, what would that be, you may ask? He took some small stones from the grave and sprayed it silver. He delivered the silver coloured stones to Neville and the 4 Windell sisters with the framed pictures of Tieka.
“Let Tieka’s life brighten you up…….sparkle bright!” Gawie laughed when he handed it to them.
“It is important that they have these special photos of Tieka,” he said.
Why would he do that?
He highly esteemed his family. He was a proud Herholdt!
Gawie had a strong Faith. He was God-fearing and regulary talked about his Saviour. On the day he passed it was reported that they found a wooden cross on a string hanging from his bedroom door – it was for his protection! Gawie was ready to meet his Maker. God bless you Gawie!
The Significance of the Cross:
By wearing a cross a person is protected from evil forces, it invites the grace of the Holy Cross of Christ, it brings His Divine blessing upon the person. It gives the person a sense that he or she belongs to Christ. It also means that he or she has a special identity – that of a Christian. It is a reminder that Christ is always with him or her.
Gawie’s special digit was number 2. Quite interesting that he passed away on the 2 nd of January 2022.
Like grandma Tieka, his dad and mom were loving and caring parents. Ous (Eileen) was the protector of her son Gawie Junior. She always rooted for him. See the short video he had uploaded of photos of his parents, friends and siblings on his Facebook page.
Way too early, it is time to say farewell to Gawie.
Rest in peace, Gabriel. We love you.
We will miss you.
We will never forget you.
You will always be in our hearts.
From: Your loving and caring extended family.

POEM: ‘Family is Everything.’
In memory of Gabriel Herholdt.
I conclude with Tieka’s favourite Psalm – for Gawie. Gabriel had the GOOD SHEPHERD on his bedroom wall.
PSALM 23
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Rest in peace.
Your Family
The Funeral of Gawie: Monday 10 January 2022. Lofdal Gemeente, Kemptonpark – Senior Past. Tienie Wessels.
The message from Pastor Tienie: Psalm 91 – the first couple of verses.
He read from Psalm 91: 1- 4
Psalm 91
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”3 Surely he will save you
from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
He acknowledged the special digit which Gabriel loved – the number 2. He used verse 2 as the main theme for his message at the funeral. He referred to verse 2. Gabriel said to God:
Psalm 91:
Vers 2: Ek sal tot die Here sê: My toevlug en my bergvesting, my God op wie ek vertrou.
Verse 2: I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
He said that anyone can make this verse their own. However, King David wanted to be close to God. He wanted to experience the presence of the Almighty. In the tabernacle – only the high Priest could enter the presence of God in the Holies of Holies. It was David’s desire to enter into God’s presence. To make God his own. To establish a close and personal relationship.
He then quoted from Deutoronomy 20: ‘Life and death – You choose this day.’
Pastor Wessels referred to Deut 30: verse 1 & 2.
15 See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. 16 For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
He said we have a choice to make. The choice is life or death. Choose life! Choose to serve God, be obedient to Him, and establish a personal relationship with him. Keep His laws! Then, we will receive His blessing – good will come to us.
