Goliath fell to the ground like a heavy rock. The muffled cracking sound of his calvaria shocked everyone. The air was hot and dusty. The ominous sky – filled with jeering and shouting – kept the birds of prey at a distance. Blood slowly appeared between the giant’s eyes and forehead, oozing from his prefrontal cortex. David looked at the two armies, the Israelites on one side and the Philistines on the other.
David drew the sword from Goliath’s sheath. He pushed it into the soft, moist ground. David placed his hands on his hips. He bent over and rubbed some dry sand into the palms of his hands. He looked up at the two armies. He then looked at the sword. On the broad, burnished blade, he saw an extraordinary image; the face of a fierce Lion appeared on the blade. He saw a reflection of the spirit in him – the ‘Lion of Judah.’ The Spirit of the Lord was on David when he faced Goliath.
Here is an accurate description from Scripture: Then David ran over and pulled Goliath’s sword from its sheath. David used it to kill him and cut off his head. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they turned and ran.
On Sunday morning – 3 September 2023 – Riss Moore was painting away on the large sword on the artist’s easel while Pastor Simon was preaching about earthly fathers and our Father God. She was dressed in her paint-stained apron while the congregation members of Activate Church – Ruakura Campus in Hamilton – followed her every stroke. A team of artists collaborate on the work and take turns to work on the same painting. The group of artists will completed the paintings over a couple of sermons. This painting is not completed yet – the team will complete it over the next couple of weeks.
The Lion on the blade of the sword stared at Riss and the congregation. David saw his spirit man, a reflection of the ‘Spirit of Yeshua’ living inside him.

“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me…:” shouted the blind beggar.

The sword of Goliath reflects the Spirit of Yeshua – bravery and courage are staring back at David. David sees the fierce Lion; he experiences the power of Yeshua.
Riss Moore – one of the team of 5 artists from the church – next the painting. Team members take turns to work on the painting over a period of time. At the moment they work on 3 canvasses over several services – Activate Ruakura and North Campus. Elske did the background on this one. Goliath’s Sword is a Team effort. The painting is not complete yet.
One of the team members: Artist Riss Moore.
