Joop and Elsa Van De Venter gazed intently at the screen before them; the image magnified several hundred times.
“Wait for it,” the IVF specialist instructed. “Look at the perimeter of the embryo.”
Then, it happened.
A sudden flash of light illuminated the embryo. Billions of zinc molecules ignited, creating a circular-shaped fluorescent glow around the perimeter as the head of the male spermatozoa penetrated the female’s egg.
“Amazing, that is absolutely AMAZING!” Joop exclaimed. “Does this happen every time a human egg is fertilized?”
“Yes,” confirmed Dr. Badenhorst, a fertility expert at Groote Schuur Hospital in South Africa.
“Wait, I’ll show you the same phenomenon with mouse embryos. I have a recording on my computer, just like the one I showed you.”
They watched in awe as the mouse embryos lit up.
“The fertilized eggs we’ve implanted in your womb were the ones with the strongest flash. I’ve made a recording for you and your husband,” Dr. Badenhorst said.

I’ve included this story at the beginning of this article to illustrate the creative power of Jehovah. A flash of light indeed occurs at the moment of conception in humans and vertebrate animals. If you are reading this, your beginning was marked by a flash of light. Billions of zinc molecules, encoded by the Great I Am, rushed into the embryo to initiate the formation of who you are today.
Isn’t that just stunning?
But that is not all. I have another surprise for you. Many years later, you could have had another flash of light around your heart. A second flash? Yes, a second flash.
I am serious. Please wait for it.
If you are a Christian, you will probably now say, “Let there be Light.” God spoke these words in Genesis 1 in the Bible. So, light is produced every time a new human is conceived. Billions of molecules parallel the universe God created in Genesis 1. God is so creative!
I just described this phenomenon of the flash of light known as the zinc spark. The burst of light occurs when a sperm fertilises an egg. Scientists have observed this flash under a microscope using special imaging techniques (shown in the video). Here is a short scientific summary:

Explanation of the Zinc Spark:
- Zinc Release: When a sperm enters an egg, it triggers a biochemical reaction that releases billions of zinc ions from the egg’s surface.
- Binding to Fluorophores: In a lab setting, researchers see the fluorescent molecules that bind to zinc. When zinc is expelled during the sperm’s entry into the egg, these molecules emit light, allowing scientists to see the flash under a microscope.
- Cellular Activation: This zinc release is crucial for the egg’s activation, initiating embryonic development.
Significance of the Zinc Spark:
- Indicates Egg Viability: The intensity of the spark is linked to the quality of the egg. A stronger spark suggests a more viable egg for fertilization.
- Potential for Fertility Research: Scientists are exploring how this phenomenon could help select the best eggs for in vitro fertilization (IVF).
While the zinc spark is not visible to the naked eye, it provides a fascinating insight into the molecular-level processes of human reproduction. Special equipment enlarging the sperm and embryo reveals the actual flash.

What a statement! Did God know the exact date and time of your and my conception? The Bible says: “Yes, He knew us from the foundation of the earth.” He knows us by name; He loves us.

I watched Joni’s Table Talk last night on Daystar Television (21 March 2025). A Doctor who had performed over 1200 abortions said he had performed these procedures over and over. Initially, there is relief for the mother. She wants the fetus removed. The Doctor said he talked to himself during all these procedures to feel better afterwards: ”I have helped her,” he would say. However, the “darkness” – ‘The Regret’ – would follow once the procedure was complete. Please note here is my disclaimer: I am only referring to healthy unwanted babies in this article. There are many very complicated scenarios for abortions. I am not referring to any of those special cases. I don’t have the knowledge and expertise to comment on those situations. I only repeat what the Doctor said in the Joni Table Talk program.

“I became numb. I was helping mothers who didn’t want their healthy babies,” the doctor said.
“Since then, he has stopped performing abortions,” Dr Anthony Levatino said. He had come to Christ. He refuses to do it now. During the show, two tools were laid in front of him. A suction tube the diameter of his pinky and a pair of stainless steel thongs with tiny sharp protrusions on the inside of the blades – to grip and tear apart.
“It is gruesome; sometimes the tiny baby would flinch as the tools touch the body,” he said.
At an early stage, the entire fetus is sucked out of the womb. However, when the fetus is older, the process entails ripping the limbs off one by one. The torso would follow, and lastly, the head would be crushed and pulled out piece by piece. The soft tissue of the brain had to be scraped out.
He continued on the gruesome details. “The doctor performing the procedure must re-assemble the body outside the womb. If the doctor leaves parts of the baby behind, the mother could die of infection.”

These are the details nobody wants to hear about an abortion.
Dear friend, if you read this article and you have aborted a baby in the past and are forgiven by God, you are free. God is merciful, just, and full of compassion to forgive all your sins, transgressions, and iniquities. You will see your unborn child again. There will be no regrets, only love. In Heaven, there is only love because GOD IS LOVE.
We always have the opportunity to ask for forgiveness. God is waiting for us. He will fully heal and forgive us.

The Second Flash of Light.
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20 (KJV)
Light and this Scripture
When Jesus knocks at the door, He offers His presence, salvation, and light to those who will receive Him.
“The entrance of Thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.”
Psalm 119:130 (KJV)
When one is born again, is it possible that there is a second flash of light? Spiritual light. Nobody can see it because spiritual transformation cannot be seen, and it belongs to the spiritual realm. However, we feel and see its impact. We experience the Light after we have done the sinner’s prayer. Everything looks brighter the next day. We experience the love of Christ in us—a powerful experience that changes our lives forever.
A second spiritual light flashes when we receive Christ. Moreover, there is a flash of light as the Holy Spirit enters the heart at this invitation. Light is ignited in us at that moment, which removes all darkness. The Word (His Holy Spirit) enters our hearts, and our hearts’ memory is changed.
That is a neat thought. We can’t see a spiritual flash, but we can experience it. I remember the Saturday night in December 1981 when I prayed the sinner’s prayer and invited Christ into my heart. There was a “flash of light” when His Holy Spirit entered. That second flash of light lit up my entire heart about 23 years after my first flash of light (when I was conceived around August 1958). I was born in April 1959.
Dear reader, have you experienced a second flash of light? I include Jesus’ invitation and what happens when the Holy Spirit enters a heart.
How to receive the Second Flash of Light (Revelation 3:20 The Living Bible)
I repeat the scripture for you.
“20 “Look! I have been standing at the door, and I am constantly knocking. If anyone hears me calling him and opens the door, I will come in and fellowship with him and he with me.”
There is a second flash of light as the Holy Spirit is invited into one’s heart. One’s “world” is transformed. And, believe me, it remains! It is like yeast in dough when preparing to bake bread. That “Light” goes through every area of your life.
I expand on the fantastic “Knock on the Door” scripture:
- Jesus stands at the door and knocks – He offers His presence, salvation, and light.
- Opening the door – When a person receives Him, the darkness in their heart is replaced with light. The second flash of light!
- Dining with Christ – This represents spiritual nourishment and continued illumination. The light remains!
- Jesus abides in the believer – His light remains in those who walk with Him.
