Dan stared at the floor, rubbing his hands together as if he was trying to warm courage that refused to rise.
“I’m not going to talk to these people,” he finally muttered to his friend Evan. “My treasures… my experiences with God, with the Holy Spirit—why should I share that? They won’t appreciate it.”

Evan leaned back, calm but firm.
“Dan, you have to risk it with other believers. Don’t hide God’s goodness, His faithfulness, His salvation, or His loving kindness from them. Be wise, yes. Be discreet if you don’t know them well. But don’t bury what God has done in you. Someone needs to hear your story.”

Dan listened—and something stirred.
Because deep down he knew this: when God deposits a treasure, it’s never meant to stay locked away.

Dear reader, in this article, I explore an interesting contrast: we are called to hide God’s Word as a treasure in our hearts, yet at the same time, reveal His nature to others. We are not to hide God’s faithfulness, His salvation, His loving kindness, or His righteousness. In other words, we must carefully and wisely testify before others about what the Lord has done. The two Scriptures highlighted in this post beautifully illustrate this truth.

—end of intro—

Wisdom Key 1: Out of the Treasure of the Heart

Jesus said in Luke 6:45 (KJV):
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good… for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”

Our hearts act like storehouses. Every encounter with God, every moment of mercy, every answered prayer, every whisper of the Spirit—these are treasures He places in us. And Jesus teaches that what we store inside will eventually find its way out: through our words, our decisions, our encouragement, and our character.

Silence may feel like safety, but sometimes silence robs others of the hope we are meant to share.

Wisdom Key 2: Hiding God’s Word in the Heart — The Secret Practice

David wrote in Psalm 119:11 (KJV):
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”

Where Wisdom Key 1 highlights the outward flow of the heart—how good treasure naturally overflows through our words—Wisdom Key 2 focuses on the hidden, inward work. Before our mouths can speak life, our hearts must first be filled with God’s truth in secret.

David teaches us that there is a private, sacred discipline in the Christian life:
The quiet storing of Scripture deep within the heart.

This is a personal relationship moment between God and man—unseen, unbroadcast, and unmeasured by others. Hiding God’s Word is not about performance; it is about formation. It shapes the conscience. It strengthens the inner life. It guards the soul against sin. And it produces the kind of spiritual treasure that eventually overflows into godly speech, wise decisions, and Christlike character.

Just as our hearts act like storehouses—collecting every encounter with God, every moment of mercy, every answered prayer, every whisper of the Spirit—so Scripture becomes the foundational treasure that stabilises everything else God places within us.

This hidden practice prepares us for the visible moments.
Without Psalm 119:11, there can be no Luke 6:45.

Hiding God’s Word equips us to speak when the Spirit prompts us.
It strengthens us to remain silent when wisdom requires it.
And it protects us from sin so that when we speak, we speak with integrity.

True spiritual overflow begins with hidden obedience.

Wisdom Key 3: David Refused to Hide What God Had Done

King David understood this truth deeply. In Psalm 40:10 (KJV), he declares:
“I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart;
I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation:
I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.”

David could have stayed quiet.
He had enemies. He had critics. He had people who misunderstood him.

But he still chose to speak.

Why?
Because the goodness of God was too big to hide.
His heart was filled with righteousness, faithfulness, lovingkindness, truth, and salvation—so how could he keep silent?

David teaches us that testimony is an act of worship.

Someone Needs the Treasure God Gave You

Like Dan, many believers hesitate to share what God has done.

  • What if people don’t appreciate it?
  • What if they judge me?
  • What if it sounds “too spiritual”?

But the Scriptures show us that God never gives treasures for private storage.

Your testimony might unlock hope in someone else.
Your story of God’s faithfulness might stabilise a trembling heart.
Your moment of forgiveness might lead someone to repentance.
Your encounter with the Holy Spirit might ignite new hunger in a weary believer.

Yes—use wisdom.
Yes—be discerning.
But don’t bury what God has placed inside your life.

Let Your Heart Speak

What fills the heart will always overflow.

  • If we store fear, fear flows.
  • If we store bitterness, bitterness flows.
  • If we store God’s truth and mercy, then truth and mercy flow.

Fill your heart with the treasures of God—
and then let Him use your story to bless someone else.

Like David, don’t hide God’s righteousness.
Like Jesus taught, let your heart overflow with good treasure.
Like Evan encouraged Dan, trust that your story matters more than you realise.

Someone is waiting for the treasure God entrusted to you.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the treasures You have placed within our hearts—Your righteousness, Your lovingkindness, Your truth, Your salvation, and every moment of grace we have experienced. Help us not to hide what You have done. Give us courage to speak, wisdom to discern, and humility to share our stories in ways that honour You.

Fill our hearts with good treasure so that what overflows from our mouths brings life, hope, and encouragement to others. Shape our words to reflect Christ. And may our testimonies shine like light in dark places.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Devotional Add-On: A Heart Full Enough to Overflow

Scripture:
“For of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”Luke 6:45 (KJV)
“I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation.”Psalm 40:10 (KJV)

Devotional Thought:
God pours His goodness into your heart so that it can pour out to others. A heart full of the Lord can’t help but overflow with words of encouragement, testimonies of grace, and stories of His faithfulness. What you speak reveals what you store.

Ask yourself today: What treasures am I feeding my heart?

When you choose to fill your inner life with God’s Word, His mercy, His faithfulness, and His truth, your life becomes a living testimony—without striving, without forcing, simply overflowing.

Prayer Starter:
“Lord, fill my heart with Your goodness, and let my life overflow in a way that points others to You.”
